Full Mouth Dental Crowns: A Solution for Those with Chronic Illness and Tooth Damage

Systemic diseases such as Lupus, as well as their corresponding medications and treatments, can significantly negatively impact the oral health of those affected. Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that can cause inflammation in various parts of the body, including the mouth.

Medications used to treat Lupus, such as corticosteroids, can also cause oral health issues such as dry mouth, infection, and tooth decay. Similarly, chemotherapy, a treatment for cancer, can also lead to oral health complications such as mouth sores, tooth decay and infection. These oral health issues can make it difficult for those with chronic illness to maintain their dental hygiene, and can also lead to further systemic health problems if left untreated.

In the video Vanity shares that, “I've had lupus since I was 12 years old. Along with that, I've had a lot of rounds of chemotherapy over the years. It's deteriorated my teeth and it finally happened where they just started crumbling. So, it was time for me to come in and get them fixed and I ended up in Dr Meta's office.”

Wondering About Your Cosmetic Options?

According to data from the Arizona Department of Health Services, she isn’t alone, the Phoenix metro area has a high prevalence of systemic diseases. In fact, it is estimated that around 5,000 individuals in the Phoenix area alone are living with lupus.

In addition, side effects of treatments such as chemotherapy can also significantly impact the oral health of individuals with chronic illness. In the Phoenix metro area, there are around 200,000 cancer patients and around 40% of them receive chemotherapy as a treatment.

The oral complications from the disease and its treatment can lead to issues such as tooth decay, gum disease, and even tooth loss. This highlights the importance of access to specialized care for individuals with chronic illnesses in the Phoenix metro area.

Finding The Best Dentist In The Phoenix Metro Area For A Full Mouth Rehabilitation Wasn’t Easy

“It was difficult. I find that I wasn't as confident in myself when I was dealing with my teeth prior to having them worked on. I didn't really enjoy talking to people. I didn't like being in the center of anything because it was one of those issues where I wanted to constantly cover my mouth and have a conversation that way, but that's not really realistic, especially when you're in business.”

So, it was a lot for me to admit that I needed the help first of all and to take the next steps to figure out what I could do to fix this and help myself.

I went to see a few dentists to get an opinion, and everyone had a different answer on how to fix it. None of them really explained the process or took the time to understand what I was going through at the time. It didn't sit right with me. I wasn't comfortable. I wasn't getting a vibe that this was where I needed to be because I didn't feel like I was going to get 100% because I was just a paycheck to them.

Every time I went to the dentist, it was something that I wasn't doing right or I needed to do this and I needed all of this extra work done in order to be over here. If I wanted my teeth whitened, I had to buy this product and that product. It was always a sales pitch. It was never, "Here's what you need to do to keep your teeth intact and take care of them and make them last as long as they can." Everything was a sales pitch and I wasn't a fan of dentists.

Then there's never enough time to take a day out and do one tooth at a time or pay five thousand dollars per tooth. And it was just so much and so overwhelming that it was such a turn off. And I was like, "I officially hate dentists." I don't want to go to the office. I don't ever. If I could live without seeing another dentist in my life, I would be happy.

“And Then I Met Dr. Mehta And Dr. Velangi, And My Opinion Immediately Changed.”

I actually got a referral to Dr. Mehta from Dr. Velangi. Between the two of them, it was amazing. I walked in, I felt comfortable. Melissa was the first person I met. She helped me fill out my paperwork. Every person that I worked with there was very, very helpful and comforting. They understood. I didn't feel like people were looking at me like, "Oh, her teeth are just so messed up." I didn't feel the judgment, and that was huge for me.

Talking with Dr. Mehta and having him explain everything to me, "This is what we can do, this is what I think you should do, this is my opinion," and gave me those options. I've never had that from a dentist in my entire life, and I got that from Dr. Mehta. And at that moment, it was it for me. I knew he was the one I wanted to work on my team.
